Having rewatched all of Department S a couple of months ago, kinda long overdue ploughing through Jason King as well.
Generally, I think Department S makes for better television, Jason King is five gazillion times sillier and lets Wyngarde go wild so it kinda levels out. The first ep is so absurdly meta as well, it’s kind of irresistible. No pisstake of the ITC formula takes the piss as hard as Jason King takes the piss out of itself.
“I was thinking about your fiance last night” is the kind of line only Wyngarde could deliver without needing to raise an eyebrow and it’s not even the best thing in the first episode.
