Intruder

Intruder (1988) Rewatch? ✅

I’m not as enthusiastic over Intruder as some folk tend to be but it’s pretty solid stuff all the same. Well, once it finally gets going. Until then, there’s a lot of literal shop talk and more shelf stacking than Tripper’s Day. It’s like a reverse Supermarket Sweep but with murders.

Thankfully, it’s quite a joy when it finally kicks into gear. The initial run of murderings has a couple of great squishy head stuff moments and a preoccupation with POV shots of people being dragged towards their doom, there’s nothing out there or exceptional at first but then it uses all the murders so far for a stonking ghost train moment and that’s it, that’s the bit I love to watch it for. For those five minutes or whatever, it’s an absolute tour de force of slasher silliness and whatever meandering the film does to get there is fine by me as long as it gets there.

After that, it’s the obligatory Scooby Doo reveal (you could grumble the artwork ruins the surprise but I doubt there’s a person alive who hasn’t worked out whodunnit by about fifteen minutes of the film starting so I don’t think it really matters) and rather than have the sense to wrap things up there, it keeps on going and it totally works. The last however long right up to the credits rolling is a treat.

So a film of two halves. One of shelf stacking and one of bloody bonces and stabbings. An unusual combination but it carries it off pretty damn well.

And, if you’re wondering, yes someone did get intruder bathroom window.
